Photography & Identity – Internationals in Copenhagen
A creative photography course for international residents experiencing mental vulnerability
Moving to a new country can create both curiosity and insecurity. You try to figure out: Who am I here? How do I build a life and an identity in new surroundings? What does home meen to me?
In this course, we use photography as a safe and meaningful way to explore identity, through our own eyes and personal experiences of Copenhagen. We work more with personal storytelling and artistic photography than technique.
Together we explore questions such as:
• How do I see myself in a new cultural environment?
• Which places do I want to explore?
• How can a photograph express my feelings, background, and dreams?
The course combines short technical introductions, hands-on photo exercises, group conversations, and photo walks in the local area. Everyone can participate - regardless of experience or what kind of camera they have (smartphones are more than welcome).
The aim is to create new connections — with your camera, the city, and yourself. The course ends with a small internal presentation of the participants’ photograhs and 2-3 professionel prints to take with you on your life journey.
Focus of the course
• Learning the basics of photography and composition
• Exploring identity and belonging
• Strengthening confidence and creative expression through images
• Building community in a small and supportive group
• Using Copenhagen and your own photographs (from your phone or family album) as a visual and emotional framework
Who can join?
This course is for international residents in Denmark who experience mental vulnerability and would like to express themselves creatively in a supportive environment.
